The PDAC 2026 international conference was held in Toronto, Canada, from March 1 to 4, in which the delegation of the Republic of Armenia, headed by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia Asatur Vardanyan, participated.
The delegation also included Vardan Jhanyan, President of the Mining and Metallurgy Association of Armenia and Hayk Aloyan MD of Lydian Armenia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the conference, the Armenian delegation held a number of working meetings with international partners. One of the most important meetings was the meeting between the Armenian delegation and with Ben Chalmers, Senior Vice President of the Mining Association of Canada, the parties reached preliminary understandings on the development of further cooperation between the organizations.
During the discussions, Vardan Jhanyan presented the activities of the Armenian Mining and Metallurgy Association and outlined the key priorities for the development of Armenia\u2019s mining sector. He also discussed the prospects for future cooperation as well as the potential membership of the Armenian Mining and Metallurgy Association in Mining Association of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The parties also discussed the possible introduction in Armenia of the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Mining standards for responsible mining. Ben Chalmers noted that the initiative was established in 2004 by the Mining Association of Canada and has become one of the leading international frameworks for responsible mining management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Chalmers, the TSM system aims to ensure high standards of mining companies\u2019 performance in areas such as environmental protection, social responsibility, community relations, and corporate transparency. Today, the framework is implemented not only in Canada but also in a number of other countries as a model of international best practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vardan Jhanyan emphasized that expanding international cooperation, exchanging best practices, and introducing internationally recognized standards for sustainable development are of great importance for Armenia\u2019s mining industry. According to him, such partnerships create opportunities to modernize the sector and align it with contemporary international environmental, social, and governance standards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
