PRESIDENT

Vardan Jhanyan

President of the Armenin Mining and Metallurgy Association

Vardan Jhanyan has served as President of the Armenian Mining and Metallurgy Association since 2022 and is First Deputy General Director of Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC), the largest mining company in Armenia.

He plays a pivotal role in advancing Armenia’s mining and metallurgical sector, strengthening collaboration between government, industry, and international partners. He is actively engaged in policy dialogue and sector development, with a strong focus on introducing international best practices and standards, including CRIRSCO-aligned reporting frameworks for mineral resources and reserves, as well as sustainability initiatives such as the Toward Sustainable Mining (TSM) program and Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative. He also initiated the creation of a joint working group with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure—the key government authority for the sector—which serves as the only formal and continuously operating platform for aligning regulatory matters between industry and the Government.

Vardan represents the Armenian mining industry (business community) at leading global mining forums, contributing to high-level discussions on responsible mining and sustainable sector development. He is a member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Multi-Stakeholder Group and serves on Public Councils under the Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body, supporting transparency, environmental governance, and regulatory improvement.

In addition, he is President of the Syunik Regional club, contributing to regional sports and community development, including providing free football training opportunities for around 1,000 children from local communities at the club’s facilities.

Vardan holds a Global Executive MBA from INSEAD.
