Construction of the Kajaran Copper-Molybdenum Combine began in 1940. Work was halted due to the Great Patriotic War and only resumed after its conclusion.
In 1949, the experimental beneficiation plant was commissioned, and by the spring of 1952, the combine produced its first output.
Initially, the mine was exploited using an underground method, but from 1957–1959, operations shifted entirely to open-pit mining.
The combine’s vast reserves of copper, molybdenum, and other valuable metals contributed to its rapid growth, making it one of the largest and leading copper-molybdenum enterprises not only in Armenia but across the Soviet Union.
