Republican Union of Trade Union Organizations of Miners, Metallurgists, and Goldsmiths of Armenia

The Republican Union of Trade Union Organizations of Miners, Metallurgists, and Goldsmiths of Armenia (RA MTG Trade Union) brings together trade union organizations from over 70% of enterprises in the sector, representing and protecting the interests of around 10,000 workers.

Trade unions in Armenia’s mining and metallurgical complex were first established between 1905–1907, during a period when Bolsheviks in the Transcaucasus actively promoted the creation of international trade unions in the region. The earliest unions included those at major mining and metallurgical enterprises, such as the Alaverdi and Kapan facilities.

The trade unions created in these and other sector enterprises laid the foundation for the establishment of a sectoral union, which was formally formed in the 1950s.

Following the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Armenia “On Trade Unions”, adopted on December 5, 2000, a joint congress of the RA MTG Trade Union and the “Lermetarmiya” Trade Union on November 2, 2002, led to the creation of the Republican Union of Trade Union Organizations of Miners, Metallurgists, and Goldsmiths of Armenia, which also incorporated trade union organizations from the goldsmith sector.

Today, the union unites over 70% of trade union organizations in the mining, metallurgical, and goldsmith sectors, representing and defending the rights and interests of approximately 10,000 workers.
