“Human Rights and Environmental Aspects in Mining: State Obligations and Business Opportunities” Workshop Held in Yerevan

A workshop on “Human Rights and Environmental Aspects in Mining: State Obligations and Business Opportunities” was held in Yerevan. Representatives from Armenian Mining and Metallurgy Association, ZPMC, international experts, and Asatur Vardanyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, all attended the ceremony.

In his remarks, the Deputy Minister emphasized that mining is a critical sector of the economy with significant potential to drive economic growth, ensure balanced territorial development, and create new jobs; however, this potential can only be fully realized if the principles of protecting fundamental human rights, environmental sustainability, and stakeholder engagement are upheld.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of the state’s role in this context, stating that policies must be developed to ensure environmental protection, community participation, investor confidence, and the safeguarding of fundamental human rights.

Referring to the Republic of Armenia’s Mining Sector Development Strategy, adopted by the government in 2023, the Deputy Minister underlined that it is one of the sector’s first and most important steps, based on clear principles and a long-term vision.
